Loch Promenade, Isle of Man

The first phase of the Villiers redevelopment on Loch Promenade on the Isle of Man took the form of 3,391m² of office space over five floors plus basement car park.  The west façade included a naturally ventilated atrium, giving protection against solar gain and incorporating the vertical circulation, with a sleek prow echoing an ocean liner at the corner of the site, nearest the ferry terminal.  High quality bespoke glazing and curtain walling were integrated into the design, and the rhythm of the bays and massing paid close attention to the existing context and local vernacular.  The tidal nature of the site, with deep basement construction, proved challenging.
